Seasons of Change

Well there you have it. Even though it’s still April, summer is officially on its way to Malta. The once green pastures (or what’s left of them anyway) are now turning golden, the skies are losing their clouds and gaining that special shade of blue so synonymous with the Mediterranean clime, the temperatures rising and the cool breeze slowly dying. Soon we’ll be getting ready for the beach, finding joy in those long, lazy evenings when even the sun seems to idle just above the horizon, lingering just a little bit longer before saying its final farewell for the day.

I can’t say I have a favourite season. I’ve always been very wary of pointing one out; all seem to have their own little piece of magic don’t they? Fall is a time of change, a transition from the sweltering heat of summer, to cooler, more intimate moments. Winter means cold, rainy evenings spent all cozied up on the sofa, with a hot coffee at hand, and something comforting to nibble on, of course (also Christmas, I love Christmas). Spring is a season full of hope, flowers bloom, the sunshine returns and our spirits soar at the prospect of warm nights spent enjoying the gentle splash of the waves on the beach. That of course happens in Summer. A time of sweltering heat, beautiful clear seas and skies and the smell of sea salt in the air.

Do I have a favourite season? No, not really… I am looking forward to summer though. I miss the sea, and sitting out in my balcony, just enjoying the kiss of the slightly salty, warm breeze that comes hand in hand with living on this island we (most often) so lovingly call home.

  1. In just 7 and 1/2 weeks I’ll be able to see your beautiful island for myself… and I can’t wait!
Here in Canberra, the autumn is here and the days becoming shorter but it’s still very pretty.
I’m a warm weather girl so looking forward to escaping the Canberra winter for some beautiful French and Maltese warmth.
